Defence Investment Plan

Defence Investment Plan Hub

The Defence Investment Plan (DIP), published 30 June 2026 by the MOD and HM Treasury, is the funding and delivery roadmap for the 2025 Strategic Defence Review. It commits £298bn over four years (including £15bn of new money), lifting UK defence spending from £54bn to nearly £80bn a year by 2029 — 2.7% of GDP, the highest in three decades, on a path to NATO's 5% target by 2035.

Headline allocations: £63bn+ for the nuclear deterrent (Dreadnought, SSN-AUKUS, new warhead), £26bn for naval base upgrades (Project Royal Oak), £8bn+ for the GCAP stealth fighter, £11bn for munitions and six new energetics factories, and a growing slice — drones, AI-driven targeting, cyber — for non-traditional capability areas. It also creates a National Armaments Director Group and UK Defence Innovation to speed up procurement, plus a £500m Transformation Fund and £50bn export finance facility aimed partly at SMEs.

The Defence Investment Plan is reshaping how — and where — £298bn of defence spend will flow over the next four years. Our Defence Investment Plan Hub brings together everything you need to stay on top of it: the latest news and analysis, in-depth blogs, market reports, and webinars, plus upcoming events where you can meet the buyers and primes shaping delivery. It's your single destination for cutting through the noise and understanding what the DIP means for your business.

From Policy to Pipeline

Want to see where the DIP's £298bn is landing? Our latest market intelligence report, From Policy to Pipeline, maps the Defence Investment Plan's eleven capability areas against live DCI tender, notice and award data — testing what's been committed against what's already moving in the market. Among the findings: 82% of captured award value is still sitting with pre-DIP spend, meaning most of the new plan's money hasn't yet surfaced as competed opportunity.

Ministry of Defence SME Action Plan and What This Means for Suppliers

The MOD's refreshed SME Action Plan commits to a 50% rise in annual SME spend, reaching £7.5bn by summer 2028. This blog covers what's behind that figure — the new Defence Office for Small Business Growth, the SME Commercial Pathway reserving smaller contracts for SMEs, and practical steps for winning direct MOD work or Tier 2/3 subcontracting with primes.

The Defence Investment Plan Is Here — and the Supply Chain Is Ready to Deliver

Published the day the DIP dropped, this blog breaks down the £298bn plan for suppliers: headline programme funding (GCAP, the nuclear deterrent, Project Royal Oak, drones and munitions), what it means practically for SMEs and mid-tier firms — jobs, lower barriers to entry, export finance — and why visibility into the tender pipeline, not just the funding announcement, is what actually converts into contracts.
