Gateshead visit

Last week Mr Williamson visited defence supplier Rubb’s base in Gateshead. The company is a global leader in innovative defence structures and hangars for the military sector. During the visit, the Defence Secretary said:

“A strong defence industry throughout the four corners of the UK is crucial to our economy as well as our national security, and Rubb UK are an outstanding example of our world-leading homegrown engineers in the North East.”

Rubb UK

Rubb currently benefits from a £6.86 million defence contract and the firm highly recommends working with the military to other UK businesses. During the Defence Secretary’s visit Ian Hindmoor, Managing Director at Rubb Buildings Ltd, said:

“Working with the MOD is a long-standing relationship that we have nurtured over the years. We are proud to be part of an industry that helps provide equipment which supports our troops at home and in the field.”

Investment in computer services

The Ministry of Defence has also disclosed that within its £100 million spend in the North East, £63 million is spent on computer services. This makes the region a tender hotspot for IT and technology suppliers. Current key suppliers include DXC Technology, Capita and Pearson Engineering.
